ERNIE PYLE was a PULITZER-PRIZE WINNING American journalist and war correspondent
He was the guy who interviewed GI's and wrote about them so the folks back home knew what was going on.
He was killed in action April 18, 1945 on the island of Le Shima. Taken down by Japanese machinegun fire.
He was 44 years old.
