It is? So you say Jack Sprat doesn't know sh** from shinola you are really saying Jack Sprat is stupid? Or he doesn't know his a** from a hole in the ground? Okay then. I get it. I like saying stupid dumb. Not so flowery or fancy but it gets the point across. Different strokes. Oh wait a minit. I also say "he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer" or "he isn't playing with a full deck of cards". Mea culpa! Thank you for your reply m2c and Happy Tuesday to thee! :)
Thank you for your reply. Well as you know I like saying stupid dumb. But I also like saying "he isn't playing with a full deck of cards" or "he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer." Or he doesn't know his a** from a hole in the ground. But I wonder why a specific brand of shoe polish was chosen or why the "S" word was used in comparison. I think I'm gonna Google it and find out. Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday to thee and thine! :)
I believe the expression is, "He doesn't know sh*t from Shinola." Shinola being a boot polish, one who doesn't know the difference between the two is not very smart.
Oh. Thank you for your reply L. I don't hear it often but when I have I never understood it. Like saying he doesn't know his a** from a hole in the ground? Happy almost Tueday!:)
