As long as you aren't using it in a derogatory way, yes.

FYI- we've had the language discussion about a million times. We're split pretty close to the middle, but the site generally favors removing cursing, primarily four-letter words and derogatory terms. We revisited this just a a couple weeks ago with a poll. I'm not enforcing my rules. I'm enforcing the rules as the members have decided.

I'm SURE you have had this discussion with everyone about one million times.  Those million times change every month.

    Thank you, Mommy

I just looked at the poll and the clear winner is "no censorship."

As a single topic, yes, but when you join no censorship/ minimal and some censorship/ total censorship, it's a tie. Moreover, there were several people who commented that they didn't vote because they thought it meant adultMug/ the adult network were going to be censored or didn't understand what areas it pertained to. By going with no censorship, 64% of respondents would be unsatisfied with the result- not including those who commented, rather that partaking in the poll. It doesn't make sense to appease 36% who want no censorship when the greater population wants at least some... again, not taking into account the people who wrote answers and did not cast an actual vote.

Manipulation at its finest.  That's what statistics are all about.   People who didn't vote didn't vote.  The post made no mention the poll was a potential rule change.  If you were going to use the method you are using you really should have only had two options.  The group with the most votes should prevail.  It doesn't in America either, but it should.

You're right. It was far from scientific. I was just looking for the general feel of the members, which we got. 64% of members are in favor of some kind of censorship/ language guidelines. Conventional logic should tell you that removing all language policies would tick off 64% of the people here. That's not manipulation of the statistics. My 50/50 remark was assuming that, if only given a choice between no censorship and censorship, the people who voted against personal attack language would choose no censorship. That's giving the no censorship category extra benefit. We don't know what those people would do- those are our voters who could go either way. But, even if every single one of them voted for no censorship when given the option between none and some, it would be 50/50.

If we were going to be scientific about it, I probably should have done it as a series of polls- A basic Yes or No on censorship as a whole, followed by questions to determine the degree of censorship, with only two options.  I don't know about you, but I don't have the time or desire to host a series of polls on a topic we've already discussed repeatedly as a site. Talk about beating a dead horse. We got the general feel from people and that's good enough for me for right now. If you feel the need to host a series of polls that  fits your criteria for being proper and accurate, by all means, have at it. I'm glad to review the results.

Just Asking, while I do attempt to be snarky and silly, I did not mean to imply that you do not have your hands full.   I KNOW why it is a pain in the butt to keep arguing about censorship.  I know you usually err on the side of caution and that is to be totally expected.  Sometimes it rankles when I am the chosen culprit.  I understand.

But I am not on here to read a list of rules over and over like it is the Bible. I am a great social network blogger on here, I know because I have changed very little from my stint on Answer Bag and I know how to network and interact and I can tell what kind of person I am talking with after about three sentences from them as a rule.   Because of this, I think it is very important to only TAKE SOMETHING OFF THAT YOU THINK IS AN ATTACK IF THE PERSON WHO IS BEING ATTACKED IS COMPLAINING.   It is no one else's business on here, mod or otherwise, if I am interacting with someone who doesn't mind the interaction and is not complaining and YES is giving back exactly what I am giving to them.

This is my beef.    I could care less about swear words.  I have an enormous vocablulary.  I can deal.  As far as what I say?   The mods are bored and go overboard the minute they see my name.  I have given them VERY little ammo lately and I think they are disappointed.   I have no problem with bad words and do not need to use them.  I do need to understand why this is such a big deal.  I doubt if advertisers are getting on here and making sure people are not arguing.  That is not their concern.  They want profit, not politeness.    If you think someone is going to sue you because of ME?   I'll pay for the lawsuit.   I can say this with certainty because it AIN'T gonna happen.   If you have contracts with advertisers who limit this site to be what it can be,  as in a lot of FUN,  then you need other advertisers.     Just because a MOD doesn't like my answer to someone does not give them any right to butt in and take charge.  If they want to answer me on the SITE that is another story.

I loved to write people's names in the questions and usually they did too.  I totally understand your not wanting attacks, but it seems like mods and yourself are overly-cautious about anyone's names being mentioned in the questions.   That kind of bugs the crap out of me.  But otherwise?  Great Job JA. Members names can be mentioned in questions as long as it is not in a derogatory way.

I, personally, don't care about cursing. I didn't even make the rule. I enforce it because time and time again, members have confirmed this is what they want. And, yes, people running around with the mouths of sailors does impact the site as a whole. It changes the atmosphere. As it stands, people are expected to conduct themselves with a certain amount of decorum, just as most people would do in any kind of mixed circle of people. Personal attacks are the same way. The nastiness spreads and goes unreported way too often as it is.

The list of rules comes down to three things- 1) Nothing illegal 2) No personal attacks 3) No foul language. If you're making it more complicated than that, I don't know what to tell you.

Just yesterday you bragged to someone about how you didn't get a question pulled because you knew how to do it without breaking the rules. And here, you're obviously baiting and pushing. That right there is the reason you get called on policy violations more than anyone else. You are the only one still here who does this. If you're going to proudly wear the "Rule Bender Extraordinaire" badge, you get the consequences that come with that. Pick your poison.
