Multiple fols can read the same book and get something entirely different from it. Is it necessary to KNOW the authori's intent?

How do you KNOW that what was there to get you actually got?

Do you discuss it with others to hear what they got out if it? If folks disagree will they always go with what THEY think it meant and discount completely the observations/undestanding of others?
