If Hillary were to withdraw from the race Tim Kaine would replace her. Would he receive the votes already cast for her?

  • Alright, I know that you're serious in asking this, so I'll approach it seriously. This election is a perfect slam dunk that has been decided. If HRC were to die before election day, she'd still be elected in which case Vice President Kaine would be sworn in as president upon certification of the results. Withdraw? Not an option. Pigs will fly first and the sun will rise in the west before that day comes.

That is not how it works.  The VP nominee would not automatically become the nominee.  The DNC would have to hold a special meeting to elect a nominee.  A majority of DNC members would have to be present...no proxy voting....that's a huge undertaking.   The country did not choose Kaine.  Neither did the party (supposedly).  In the case of having to fill a vacancy during an election, that is the DNC rule.
Then GOP has a similar, but  not identical, rule.
