Why are motors always so NOISY? Leaf blower mower et al etcetera and so forth. Is it against some law of physics or something?

If you are referring to combustion type engines, they are noisy because of the explosions of the fuel-air mixture in the cylinders. Most electric motors are quiet unless they are being used to blow air. My pool pump motor is very quiet. I hate the sound of lawn/leaf-blowers.

Honestly E I have no idea what type but the noisy type puzzles me. Why is your pool motor quiet and a leaf blower motor so noisy? Isn't a motor a motor? Do they have electric motor leaf blowers? Now it would have to blow air so why does blowing air create noise? Thank you for your reply! :)

No.  All gas engines are loud.  There IS an explosion happening repeatedly inside (gas fumes ignited above a piston). You don't have that with an electric engine.   MOst small engines have small mufflers which can't absorb a lot of the sound (consider the size of a car muffler).

Have you ever been to a NASCAR race? Awesome.

No, but I did live with a mile of a racetrack once.   I hate loud noises (even motorcycles).

I was a bit younger. Loud noises bother me. too. Even my wife's voice. (not joking)

Do they have leaf blowers with electric motors? Maybe all gas motors should be outlawed due to noise pollution. What would we have to give up if that were the case? Anything? Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

Most of the professional landscapers in our area use gasoline powered ones. Mine is electric, but I rarely use it. They are all noisy.

Even the electric ones? Noise pollution seems to be increasing or I'm just noticing it more. Thank you for your reply E! :)

The noise from the electric blowers is from the air being forced through a small opening, not the motor itself.

OH! Huh. I guess there is no way to quiet that process then is there? Thank you for your reply E! :)

I just showed this photo to Jim. He has a pair he uses but these look a bit more high tech. Thank you for the photo m'dear! :) This post was edited by RosieG at July 26, 2021 8:02 AM MDT

Is that really you? If so you are one handsome dude! And you photograph very well...like a model! Jim said some of those headphones you can hook up to cell phones and stuff. Is the one in the photo like that? Thanks E. How are things going in Toledo weatherwise? I know firewise you guys are pretty much okay! :) This post was edited by RosieG at July 26, 2021 8:06 AM MDT

Yes, my sister owns one.  My leaf blower is gas powered, but my lawn mower is electric.  While I have to wear ear protection when operating my blower, when I use my mower the neighbors can barely hear it.
Currently, electric motors have a few disadvantages - batteries quickly run down or cords are in the way, and they can't always deliver the power of an electric motor.

I think noise pollution is accelerating. Or maybe it's my imagination. We have wireless cordless up the kazoo but noiseless seems to be elusive. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :) This post was edited by RosieG at July 26, 2021 11:13 AM MDT
