How does a bunch of "clay" become a human being? Are some born and stay that way while others are born to become something else?

What is it that casues some lumps of clay to become a Hitler while others lumps of clay become a Nelson Mandela or a Mother Teresa? T'is a puzzlement with extend to which homo sap "clay" becomes or does not become isn't it?
