I had hamsters, gerbils, snakes, mice, frogs and fish in my classrooms. I had a ferret and an iguana as personal pet.

WOW! My sis had goldfish. We had a cocker spaniel when we were kids. After that it's been cats for me solidly only. I'm a cat person. They are independent and not remotely NEEDY. Works for me. Our son who now lives in northern Nevada and is remarried used to have SNAKES with his former wife. Scary stuff seeing snakes slithering in cases.  I salute you and applaud you for your going outside the lines. Of course I don't know how many other had ferrets or iguana as pets. Thank you for sharing!:)
