The main purpose of a political party is to make sure everyone thinks alike. They forbid independent thought. Why?

Like-minded people cling together and MUST embrace the party line. So they do. How is that a good thing for anyone? Why is independent thought frowned down upon and rotespeak/rotethink/roteact so much in favor/admired/embraced/praised?
