    This would be your spare room not your bedroom. 
    So they want to tax your sewing room or your office etc.   (Australia, not the US yet)

    Australia is talking about taxing spare rooms. To encourage people to rent their room out or to downsize to a smaller home.

    I would need more information. England reduced benefits for those in public housing who had more bedrooms than they needed. This was referred to as a bedroom tax. It was meant to alleviate the public housing shortage. 

    But, if you mean should we tax unoccupied bedrooms for billionaires who own multiple mansions with lots of bedrooms, I'm fine with that.

    I don't think the gov should tax anyone billionaire or elderly seniors with a sewing room etc.  We already pay property tax...that is bad enough. 

    This is Australia, and yes for housing shortages.
