Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Over time some things become outdated/antiquated/obsolete and are replaced by "better." The Electoral College benefits whom today? Why?
In 2000 Al Gore won he majority vote and George W Bush became prez and gifted us with t he unnecessary Iraq War because SCOTUS stepped in. Gore decided not to fight. I am for MAJORITY RULE. You aren't. So what? I think the majority should get to elect the person it wants as prez. You don't. You might want to ask yourself why that is if you care at all to think things through. If you don't so what, right?
I don't think it's a question of not liking the outcome. In my case, it's the belief that the president should be elected by the majority of the people. If an Elector chooses to vote opposite of the popular vote of their state, they can do that without consequence.
If the system is unfair and not working why wouldn't you want to make it better SB? I mean how many amendments do we have to the Constitution of the United States of America? They are there to make the Constitution better, right? Why would you want to subvert "better"? Thank you for your reply and Happy Sunday t o the SB! :)
So what do you propose to do about it Sharonna? We all vote under this system and agree to accept the outcome. That's why we've always had peaceful transitions of power. Invariably, about half the country is unhappy with the outcome of every presidential election. It happened with Obama, Bush, Clinton, and every winner before them. No matter what you do, there's no perfect system that will satisfy everyone. It's the nature of politics and compromise.
