    Matters not. The contest was for the electoral college, which both campaigned to win. If they had campaigned to win the popular vote the strategy would have been different. Even though Trump won, he himself barely appreciates why and was ready to blame the electoral college and call the election a fraud. The system worked as a Republic should.
