Subsequently I found out that Gore's meeting with Ivanka was fairly brief and then he and PET had a longer meeting. When interviewed after the meeting Gore didn't give particulars. Said he preferred to protect the privacy of what was said but he did seem upbeat and indicated there could be future meetings.  I don't  know enough about Ivanka to know if she is a phony or sincere. Thank you for your reply Glis and Happy Tuesday! :)

In the immortal words of Darth Cheney, "So?"

Wake me when The Donald repudiates his previous statement about anthropogenic climate change being, "...created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."

To date, it appears The Donald is using Ivanka as PR cover to distract the rubes from what he's really doing.

So? Not so? Woe woe woe.  Subsequently  I found out that the meeting with Ivanka was brief and after that Gore and PET met for a longer meeting. Gore said he preferred to keep what was said private but he seemed upbeat and indicated there might be future meetings. To answer your question "SO?" Here's why it might matter OS. When PET met with Obama he changed his tune on  parts of the AHCA. Specifically he said he would keep the no exclusion for pre-existing conditions and would let parents keep their kids on their policies. When he met with Mattis he changed his tune on torture. He had said that he would pursue torture including waterboarding and worse when he was campaigning. He met with Mattis and said he was surprised to learn from Mattis that torture doesn't work. What works better is a pack of cigarettes and a couple of cans of beer. Those examples show you that after a meeting with someone PET may change his mind. So does that answer your "SO?" PET seems to be the kind of person who has no core beliefs so he is open to whatever anyone says whenever. That's what's so so far. What happens next I cannot say. But PET is "flexible". Mahalo for your reply!

@RosieG -- Goodness, I hope what you're reporting is true. Maybe The Donald can set aside his ego long enough to learn how the real political/geopolitical world works.

Let's hope that becomes the rule, not the exception. I think results to date are mixed. While the changes of mind you cite are encouraging, there's also ridiculous stuff like the Carrier deal and selecting Dr. Ben Carson to head up HUD.

    We shall see...

Even more surprising is this. PET was interviewed on The Today Show by Matt Lauer via phone on Wednesday morning. Don't know if you caught any of it. Among the things he said was that he really likes Obama. He had never met him before. Subsequent to their initial meeting he has called Obama about many issues and his selections of staff. When asked if he took those suggestions/that advice seriously PET said he does. Obama said he was supportive of one selection in particular. PET disclosed no details but the overall impression is that Obama is doing his best to be an honorable mentor and PET appreciates that  very much.  So you see all the years PET vilified Obama are now in the past. He vilified someone he didn't know at all..had never met. I'm sure Obama, being a most gracious and calm individual, is doing his very best to counsel PET as helpfully as he can. The worm can turn. PET may be in that process now. Happy Thursday OS! :) This post was edited by RosieG at December 8, 2016 4:43 AM MST

Here's the thing Tom. After PET met with Obama he changed his tune on a couple parts of the AHCA. He said he agreed that there should be no excluding those with pre-existing conditions and that parents could keep their adult kids on the plan till they were 26. He said he thought those were good things. Also during the campaign he said he would bring torture back including waterboarding "and worse". After his meeting with General Mattis he said he was surprised to learn from Mattis that torture doesn't work. What works better is a pack of cigarettes and a couple of beers. So perhaps his stance on climate change will change a bit. Gore was not forthcoming about the details of his meeting. He met briefly with Ivanka and then had a longer meeting with PET. Gore said he would protect the content of the meeting and keep it private but he seemed upbeat and I got the impression there might be future meetings. So maybe PET trying to broaden his understanding of the issues and trying to get all sides of the picture. How can that be bad? Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday to thee! :)

Yes, I'm sitting down. I don't blame Al Gore for wanting to meet up with Ivanka. I would, too. She's really hot. I'd give her a 9 1/2 out of 10.

Actually Gore met with Ivanka only briefly and then followed it up with a longer meeting with PET. Gore said he would protect the content of the meetings and keep it private but he was definitely upbeat and indicated there might be future meetings as well. How can that be a bad thing? As for Ivanka?  I seriously doubt that Al Gore is like daddy dearest who said he would date Ivanka if she were not his daughter. I'm fairly certain that Gore has a lot more substance to him than PET. But your saying that gives me an idea for a question Lucia. You will recognize it. Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday! :)
