Netanyahu blames Obama for the UN Resolution condemning Israel for West Bank Settlement building. What US PREZ has supported that? Ever?

Republican and Democratic presidents have not supported the  building of settlements on the West Bank  by Israel. Why is Net blaming Obama as if he is to blame when in fact no American president EVER supported that effort? Does Net think we are so stupid/ignorant/dumb as that? Are we?

Americans are that stupid. At least a dangerous number of them are. It will be common practice to blame Obama for everything in the next four years. You did it with Bush. Your adversaries learn well. This post was edited by O-uknow at December 27, 2016 7:53 AM MST

I answered one of many you asked "Does Net think we are so stupid/ignorant/dumb as that? Are we? ". Can't devote time to answering them all. This post was edited by O-uknow at December 28, 2016 7:40 AM MST

  • While the US has spoken out about the settlements in the past, it has done little more Rosie.  Isreal's repeated appearances in front of the UN and repeated criticism directed at it have been neutered by a lack of US backbone when it came to the vote.

The reason for this is, I suspect, the Jewish vote in the US.  That's just a guess though.  Personal or party advantage is usually seen as a priority in life for these people.  Netanyahu's approach has altered markedly in only a few years too - he is on record as supporting all sorts of things he is now authorising policies to work against.

Anyone who has paid any attention knows how the UN can be a paper tiger.  You get opposing groups/nations and they persistently veto any vote to do anything about a given situation.  Russia has done this over Syria recently and the US has done this over Israel, repeatedly.

So what you're seeing is a temper tantrum brought on by the sudden abandonment by the US (if only for a little while) of the idea of Israeli exceptionalism, as the abstention of the US allowed a vote to be passed rather than blocked.

It's not enforceable so nothing will happen directly.  But this is now the third (I think) declaration that Israel's occupation is unhelpful, illegal and in direct opposition to a two state settlement.  It will make Israel's job a bit harder and may cause a little bit of a rethink (though I can't see how, now).  But it does shatter the 'Israel Are Always The Good Guys' myth that the nation has been putting out for a long time.  That's embarrassing
