What crime has Assange been convicted of? A person isn't a criminal until they have been convicted of a crime. To my knowledge he has never been charged with a crime relating to Wikileaks. It isn't a crime to simply post hacked information online.

I recall much support for Wikileaks exposing the documents / evidence they obtained from Chelsea (formerly Bradley) Manning, Snowden and the Arab Spring that was widely considered a direct result of Wikileaks and Manning's collaboration.

Politicians and pundits seem to pick and choose when Assange is a criminal and when he is a hero based on what suits their argument at the moment. But I think many people realize that on the whole, a service to humanity has been done through the information Wikileaks has helped uncover* on more than one occasion. My concern/issue is that Wikileaks is run by one of the New Technocratic Elite who decides their morals are the right morals and they know what is best. Do they post EVERYTHING they get? Do they pick and choose? Do they time postings to coincide with other events? Do they question the results of the information being posted?

It is yet another person pulling the strings under the guise of being a vigilante information warrior.

I think all those same questions could probably be directed at our very own media.

There is always a due diligence on the part of the reader. If the reader is easily strung by the nose, I'm not sure the publisher is entirely to blame for that, you know?

    Definitely. We're all being played.

When the "scandalous" emails about the DNC supporting Hillary more than Sanders came out, I didn't even see the problem. That is part of the party system. The party does what it wants. Of course backroom deals are being made.

However, there can be a problem with releasing raw information that is easily misinterpreted. Or worse when "The Media" only reports on snippets of the information and then puts their spin on it.

Totally agree with you there. We live in a "soundbite" era and that's truly unfortunate given our ease of access to more complete information. Add to that widespread camera-phones and distortions or outright fabrications are more prolific than ever before.

More than ever before the viewer / reader / spectator must utilize critical thought yet coexist with a highly sensationalist media / entertainment industry that literally programs the viewer's brain to process information through visceral emotion. A very dangerous recipe, in my opinion.
