If I gain weight, it's usually because I've allowed myself to overindulge. I just look at which calories are empty, and cut those. The easy ones are wine and dessert. I cut them out, except for an occasional treat. Water keeps me from munching mindlessly in the evening. Of course, I have to get up during the night. >:\
My big problem is walking. I dropped 50 lbs in 2012 just walking and eating smaller portions. Unfortunately I can no longer walk effectively. I hobble about 4 or 5 km a day but can't go fast enough to keep the weight down and I've put back almost 20 of those lost pounds. I'm just gonna have to eat like a sparrow.
I'm going back to swimming and lifting weights. It's easier on the joints and bones. Also there are some really good vegetarian recipes out there. I can eat all I want if I lay off the meat and carbs.
We went vegetarian for about six months -- not for health reasons but because I found an interesting vegetarian cookbook. Quite liked it but back on the dead animals now.
I know impact is hard on joints but I thought weight lifting was too. I have always heard swimming the best exercise with the least amount of possible injury that we can do.
Hi Trhifty. Weights are hard on the joints too but at least you don't have that sudden impact as when your feet hit the ground running. I think once I build up more muscle, my joints will be sturdier. We'll see.
Just be careful. I've already had both knees replaced. I had knee problems my whole life, and as fate would have it, that is where arthritis trespassed. I'm happy; the surgeries really gave me my life back. When I was about 22 the ortho told me to do some exercises and that I would probably end up in a wheel chair by age 50. Well, a lot changed between age 22 and 50 and I just got new knees. Pretty cool!
Eat 1000 calories per day and go about life as usual. It doesn't require spending money or going somewhere besides home to exercise or run. You can pick up a $2.00 calorie counter by the checkout line at the supermarket.
The way people are manipulated by advertising and political propaganda is one of the wonders of the world.
Weight Watchers saved my life in the 80's. I know a lot of diets, but their rule of thumb back then is so easy.
A protein the size of your fist is about the right portion for a chicken piece, or a pork chop or a fillet of fish. That size is usually the right size.
So 2 proteins or 3; 2 breads, 3 milks, 3 fruits and 5 vegetables. You get as much free vegetables as you like. 3 tblsps of fat
Keep a snack sensible and at about 100 calories and you will drop the pounds.
Keep the sugar and white flour to a minimum.
Drink at least 8 glasses of 8 ounces of water a day.
