One side says the US SEAL raid in Yemen was a success. The other side says it could bolster anti-US anger. What say you? Why?

People died. It was planned a couple of months ago but Obama did NOT sign off on it. Maybe he would have. Maybe the results would have been different. Maybe not. How you perceive the Yemen raid situation depends ENTIRELY upon your politics. Of course it does. What else in life is as ubiquitous and rigid as partisanship?

Everything the US does in the ME bolsters anger against the US, just as it has for decades.

I agree with the raid. It was unfortunate that civilians were killed, but al-quida (spelling) likes to surround themselves with civilians like the cowards that they are. I think our intelligence was bad or the osprey was too loud. We could have called in a Warthog (A-10) to strafe the compound with it's Gatling gun and another to do the same where the ambushers were. We got some good hardware and software.

    Hello Rosie:

The success or failure cannot be determined at this point..  The OBJECTIVE of the raid was to secure intelligence.  That means laptops, cell phones and paper records..  It was NOT to gain military advantage..  It was NOT to gain territory.  It was NOT to kill the enemy..

The hardware that WAS captured will take weeks before the value of it can be determined..

So, if it turns out that the intelligence gathered was SOOO valuable that it results in major shifts in the war, then I'd say it WAS worth it..  However, if it turns out to be BUNK, the losses are UNACCEPTABLE and somebody should LOSE their job..

    We killed 14 Al-Quada leaders.
    We got computer hard drives.
We lost 1 seal. .....One is one too many. But we won that battle.
    It was a success.

  • Are you saying that fourteen towel heads and some.BS computers are a fair trade for the life of that soldier. Next week nobody but his family will remember. He.died for nothing.

I am saying we accomplished our mission. It is of course a shame that we lost a Seal. We do not know what information we have gained from the mission. Likely will never know they don't share all the information they gain.  Perhaps it will stop another 911 or a smaller attack.

  • Five thousand soldiers lost their lives, in Iraq. 5000! That's a successful mission too. For a piece of rock that was not even held. It is interesting how those who have no idea about what being a soldier is, are the ones tossing around the world we, we did this, we did that. We accomplished the mission. Those are the ones that also toss around numbers of casualties like you know, whatever?
We only lost one, or two, or five thousand.
