Can you help with the title of an old Civil War movie?

This is an oldie -- maybe 1960s or 70s -- about a Confederate spy who made his way north with a northern theatre group. Inevitably he and the star fell in love, the war intervened, and she was singing at Carnegie Hall (I think) when the end of the war was announced. She managed, with a little help from her co-star, to get the audience singing I Wish I Was In Dixie in honour of the losers.

Can anybody recall it? Movie title, stars, date, anything at all, really?

  • Thanks, OzG, but there's nothing like that title on the Net (Google and IMDB). But your Gone With The Wind reference might be worth following up. I'll see if anybody can nail it first.

  • I gotta pay that. You sucked me right in. I actually searched for it. Shame, Oz Girl, taking advantage of an old man's gullibility. :(

  • Mr Didge.   Not gullability... Not from you, you're far too astute for that... I'll put it down to caffeine withdrawal :)
