Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» Mike Flynn lied to Mike Pence about Russian contacts. He was fired. Jeff Sessions lied to Congress. Why wasn't he fired too?
The whole incident with Jeff Sessions was, as usual, misconstrued as something it wasn't. Yes, Jeff Sessions had contact with Russian ambassadors twice, but not as a Trump campaign surrogate or whatever language was used. The first meeting was an educational conference set up by the Obama administration called "Global Partners in Diplomacy" in which Jeff Sessions spoke. The Obama state department handled all the invitations, not Sessions. After his speech was over, Sessions met the Russian diplomat who thanked Sessions for his speech, along with about 100 other diplomats. That was the first "meeting." The second meeting took place in Sessions office during his time as a senator and a member of the Senate Armed Service Committee where they discussed the relations between the two countries as was his job at the time. It was not about the election.
The questions asked of Jeff Sessions were centered around the Trump campaign. Sessions responded by saying that he didn't have contact with the Russian government about the campaign, which is true. He didn't lie. Could he have been more accurate? Yes, he could have, but he answered truthfully the question given to him.
