Katy Perry said she "prayed the gay away" as a youth. She also slammed Gay Conversion Therapy in a speech to an LGBTQ group. Why?

Isn't that what Gay Conversion Therapy is? Praying away the gay? I'm not sure what her message is because it sounds contradictory to me. Doth it to thee?

  • She simply was stating her personal history and experience with this foul, wretched, inhumane pseudo science.  She is staunchly opposed to it now just as most normal, educated persons should be.

Some people fortunately are able to outgrow the environment of hate with which they are inculcated from birth! Good for her! :)

  • Seems like spurious thinking and a fatuous attempt at promoting religion.

You can't pray away the gay, but for those who believe that God will answer their prayers, they could pray to take away temptation for what they believe to be immoral acts. And that goes for both gay and straight people.
And I am sure that no God of love would ever approve of sending children to those conversion camps.
And any parent who would do that should be thrown in jail.

Doesn't she sing the song "i kissed a girl"? which contradicts what she is saying.
