Ever known anyone who was REMARKABLE? If so, why did you think so ?

I think most people are remarkable in some way or other.   The reason being, I think survival is totally remarkable.  I don't know how most of us make it through the day, with all the potentials for dying all around us.  We can get in a car and die very VERY easily.   We have bodies that depend on EVERYTHING.   Our bodies depend on homeostasis just to function.   Then we need proper food, housing, air, water, etc.  Those who do not get these needs fulfilled quite often  seem to carry on for longer than expected.

I am totally remarkable.  And look at you.  So are you, too.

So was my mom and dad.  So is my hideous, alkie brother.  We all make our way on this planet and the mere fact that we survive is remarkable to me.  Even those in prison for the remainder of their lives are totally remarkable.  I cannot give a stronger example of the will to survive than that one.   How they do it, is beyond me.  Remarkable.

I know some people that have overcome incredible hardship, yet remain to be very decent and strong human beings.  That is remarkable to me.

  • A few, I think.

A boy who ran away from home at 12 and became a successful composer and trumpeter.

A girl who survived brain-damage from an accident and managed to create a successful ordinary life.

But the more I think about it, the more I find everyone I know remarkable in their own way.

Perhaps you mean, have I ever know someone who really stands out from the crowds of others, is distinguished in some way?

I've never known anyone like that well, but I've had a few passing meetings or acquaintanceships.

My tutors at college were artists who made their mark in art history.

    The philosophy professor, David Armstrong.

One of my mentors in horsemanship was the whisperer, Monty Roberts.

My parents mixed in the milieux of Montsalvat at Eltham, and the Sydney Push. Those people were guests at dinner when I was a child.

By chance, I've had tea with Germaine Greer at the Chillingham Markets, because she owns a property not far from where we live.

But the people I think are most remarkable are the writers of my favourite books, people I've never met or known. They strike me as utterly extraordinary.

Very eloquent m'dear.  You make a very good case. But if everyone is remarkable then no one is and I think there are some that stand out whom we are privileged to meet in our lives. Matt was remarkable, may he rest in peace. Our Answerbag friend who passed away October 15, 2014. There was much about him that no one knew., I think my son is remarkable. In fact when he was getting his Master's degree at the University of Hawaii and I was introduced to his college professor I was told "You have a remarkable son". I have always treasured that.  Now my son is a college professor at the University of Hawaii and chair of his department! I think that is remarkable considering I just have a Junior College AA degree . I think my dad was remarkable. In my entire life I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. What he would say was that people do the best they can do and some people's best is not  very good. I think Jim is remarkable. I have never met a kinder person, a more caring person, a more patient person or a more thoughtful person. He also has a very dry wit.  What I lack he has. Thank you for your reply Sharonna.

I admire artists of all disciplines. I am amazed at the creativity, imagination they display.  I am NOT artistically gifted but I am an  excellent appreciator and I get chills sometimes at the beauty I find in literature or music or acting or singing or dancing. Artists take me away to a very different place and the very good ones linger in my memory. A song can cheer me or make me thoughtful or bring back wonderful memories of people who are no longer in my life for whatever reason. Thank you for your thoughtful answer hartfire!  :)

  • It's always lovely to hear it when people enjoy the arts, and the kind of difference it can make in people's lives.

    Totally remarkable
    My spiritual masters
    Not a thought running through
Their mind and as a result of that
They could take you to deeper levels of consciousness just by being in their company.

I agree. A life without artists to brighten up would be very gray indeed!  :)

Do they have names Baba? Names that you can share with us? "Spiritual masters" come in all sizes, shapes, ages, times. Can you be specific? Thank you for your reply!  :)
