  • The first step is to become your own master, and that is not an easy chore. There are many influences over people. We all must earn a living somehow, so our employers and co-workers have power over us. Rulers of nations have power over all people in their nations. When we are young, our parents have power over us. If one deals with the public, he must please most of them to stay afloat. Religions have great control over many people. Some of them instill feelings of guilt and fear to control people and collect money from them. Clergy take totalitarian control over naive people. Media control the minds of most people. It has long been obvious to me that media have biases, and they deceive people to enforce these biases. All too many people mindlessly parrot whatever media utter without question. I observe that some media have created a frenzy lately with many people possessed by bestial rage and hate. I see that on some websites, e.g. this one, Yahoo Answers, Quora, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Many people mindlessly repeat anything critics write or utter. Advertising and publicity are strong influences upon people. Rolex watches and Glock pistols have saturated the media with ads, and writers in magazines and newspapers must agree with whoever buys the most advertisements. As a result, many people imagine that Rolex and Glock products are much greater than they actually are. Rolex is actually a middle class mass produced entry level luxury watch brand, but many people imagine that it is the best and costliest brand of watches. A Rolex worker spends an average of four hours on each watch made, while a Patek Philippe worker spends 89 hours on its average watch. Rolex's price range is $5250 to $62,500 recently, while Richard Mille's price range is $100,000 to $1,800,000. Rolex's most complicated watch is an annual calendar priced at $38,500 in 18 t. gold. The most complicated wristwatch is the Franck Muller "Aeternitas Mega 4" costing $2,600,000. As you see, research in depth about watches frees me from delusions created by Rolex. Studying and thinking profoundly are the first steps to freeing yourself in all areas of life.
