Many of the birds here in Toledo have also disappeared. I have been watching this for years. They go North when the food sources dry up. Then they come back for a few days to replenish. Many cardinals winter over but most robins and sparrows leave. However, this year the northern US and lower Canada are much cooler than normal, so I suspect many of the have begun their trip South. I need to call my sister in FL. You are not crazy.
Like every August this year last year it was July right through October they just quit chirping and the few I see are just new baby birds getting fat for the winter. (Love the baby birds ) Mainly sparrows, robins , cardinals, bluejays are so rare now I don't even see them during spring. In fact the swans in the bay even took off but they return in October, maybe I should take a break as well.
