  • The day that a person decides to live their life in public, from that moment everything is fair game. If a man or woman wants anything to be personal and private, they'd better live a private life. President Arthur said that his personal life was nobody's damn business. He was wrong then and he'd be wrong now.

  • Agreed.

Your constitution guarantees the separation of justice, church, and state.

There are grounds for a legal challenge against a President who attempts to force religion on others.

He would lose and be deposed.

Thank you for your reply PP and Happy Monday to thee. Speaking for myself personally I don't want to know anyone's religion. I don't care what it is.  I think it should be lived but not bragged about or used as a weapon to put other people in bondage to it. That's just my view.  I only care about what the person does if/when empowered to legislate and incorporates that religion into laws that restrict me. Different strokes. If it does not affect me it is none of my business. I don't care who people love or sleep with or where they worship or don't worship. I don't.

From your lips to the Universe my friend. In the good old US of A religion is used as a weapon to put people in bondage to it through legislation by politicians.  It flouts the law of the land. People get special dispensations due to their religion. In some states it is okey dokey to discriminate based on religious beliefs. I find that disgusting and evil to boot. Thank you for your reply hartfire! It is not enough for these folks to practice their religion. What they want is to force everyone else to practice it too by restricting what they can do in their private lives. How can any rational person find that appealing?

  • My commiserations, Rosie.

Our societies are sliding into troubled times.

We do not know how much worse it might get.

We can only try to offer voices for peace, understanding, and tolerance.

And vote and lobby to reinforce the laws that protect people's rights.

One question is, what personality, experience or conditioning triggers a person to become fanatical?

I don't know the answers, but I might try to find out.

Geez  hartfire if you can get anywhere near finding a plausible answer to that question please share it with us. It beats me.  All I can figure is that some people GET OFF on being in control, heavy-handed, bullies.   If they can use religion to club others over the head and drag them into their covens they will. If not religion something else will do. They want abject servile obedience. Give them that and they are happy and will adore you . As if! Of course if they didn't get it from a lotta folks and if it didn't work they would try something else. But thinking is hard work and many folks are just happy not burdening themselves with that. They just turn over everything to an ideology and obey without question. NEVER deviate from it. Life is easier that way for them I guess. I could not survive  but many seem to thrive. Maybe one day all pols will be grownups who are fair and honest and really do get into politics to serve the people.  And maybe the people will appreciate them and vote for them. I won't hold my breath. Thank you for your reply my friend!  :)

  • Actually, I think you hit the nail on the head: control freaks.

The need to control others can actually be a process addiction, an emotional addiction.

    It is psychologically well understood.

Very sticky one to deal with, because the last thing most people want is to let go of their addictions.

Apparently. But I truly believe those with the most severe addictions are clueless. They don't realize it is an illness that controls them and drives them. They think it is justice and right and necessary and no amount of facts/evidence will ever sway them from their indoctrinated course. Thank you for your reply hartfire! :)
