The New Times covered stories about Arpaio's shennanigans since I moved down here 20 years ago. He is a crook and used his political influence to move things around here that he had no business moving around.
He by-passed rules and regulations and people loved him for it. He was used to a bunch of Republicans keeping him in office in the belief that he really kept this town in order.
He ruled with an iron fist, they said. That iron fist was only used when convenient for him.
Over the past 20 years, Phoenix New Times has reported on Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's serious abuse of power. The self-described "Toughest Sheriff in America" has fostered horrendous jail conditions, reckless police operations, and carried out personal vendettas against political rivals and members of the press. In the past year or more, he has also appointed himself enforcer of the nation's immigration laws in Arizona, and a whole new series of problems has emerged. Foremost, he and his deputies have violated the Constitutional rights of brown-skinned U.S. citizens and have committed outright cruelty against the undocumented.

He was charged and convicted of CRIMINAL actions m2c. He wasn't only enforcing the law. If you buy that line then you are very naive. I suppose there are worse things that that. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday! :)
He was only convicted of "contempt of court" because a judge ordered him not to enforce the laws on the books. And he refused to not enforce those laws.
