I can not think of any rule I have broken.  Other than grammar and spelling....thank you Randy for pointing those out. Lol

I don't  cheat on my taxes, don't speed, etc.

Penal laws are not considered to be binding in conscience.

Epikeia is a virtue. (But not in "moral" situations.)

St. Thomas Aquinas, following Aristotle, speaks of epikeia as a virtue, which pertains to the virtue of legal justice (Summa theologiae 2a2ae, 120.1 ad 2). Human law is imperfect and admits of exceptions because, by its very nature, human law is based on the ordinary course of changing circumstances (ut in pluribus ). Epikeia safeguards the higher values of the natural law in the face of the imperfections of positive law.

If you haven't ever legitimately violated a legitimate law, you may be like the guy in the Bible who buried his talents and never did anything worthwhile with them.

    Just saying...

I have received parking tickets. I almost always drive 5 miles faster than the posted speed limit tom. Mea Culpa.  I have NEVER cheated on my taxes or on anything else. I ALWAYS vote. So 2  out of 3 is a pretty good batting average don'tcha think? 66.66666666%? As for buried talents and never having done anything worthwhile with them? According to whom? There is no ONE world arbiter of such things you know. Not even the pompous  Donald John. I'm just sayin'.  Thank you for your reply. My oh my!  :( This post was edited by RosieG at November 5, 2017 3:26 AM MST

The Parable of the Talents (also the Parable of the Minas), is one of the parables of Jesus, which appear in two of the synoptic, canonical gospels of the New Testament: Matthew 25:14-25:30. Luke 19:12-19:27.

If you are not occasionally getting (or doing things that would result in) or "breaking" laws appropriately, you are probably not using all your God-given gifts.

I can't do any better than what you can read on here, so try this link:

How is any of that "breaking" any laws tom? You use the talents(abilities) you are given. Whether the "talent" is money or ability. Now if your talent (ability) might be to find a cure for cancer but your family lives in poverty and  you are not able to get the necessary education to support further discovery because you have to work to support your family and aren't able to follow a dream because you have responsibilities to others and put them first how did you break any laws?. It reminds of the Thomas Gray Elegy...

"full many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste its fragrance on the desert air". There are many reasons why talents(abilities) are not uncovered in one's lifetime. It depends on many things not the least of which is what you are exposed to, what help you get along the way, what tragedies befall you, how responsible you are, what breaks you get in life and what obstacles get in the way. You know that. Breaking a law to utilize a talent (ability) makes no sense unless your talent (ability) is robbing banks. Thank you for your reply tom and Happy Monday.

It's not that you break any laws.

It's that you live life at a level that allows interaction with the world in a positive manner and take risks to do good, statistically, you are going to break some laws.

Both penal laws and the virtue of epikeia anticipate that as a fact of life.

Im not anal about anything. I love my country and the American Flag, so I am respectful of it and of the law. I dont cheat on my taxes because I dont have to pay any, my son does, and  he does not cheat on his taxes.
