What motivates the top 1% commonly referred to as the Elites to change the world into some new order and what order improves them from

My father and grandfather were both in the upper 1% of the upper 1%.  Neither of them had any thought of changing anything beyond life within their own families.  One was a surgeon, the other a mechanical engineer and inventor.  Those who have any chance of changing the world must be far more elite than the upper 1%, maybe the multi-billionaires in the upper .0001% or higher.
