When you're feasting and have more than plenty and you throw a bone to a dog are you being kind or cruel? Why not share bounty/not bone?

Because the dog is happy to have the bone.  And a lot of "human food" is bad for the dog.

Well, a lot of "human food" is bad for humans too.  LOL

I know chocolate can be deadly but what kind of nut would give chocolate to a dog in the first place? So is dog food made of bonemeal then...no beef or turkey or chicken or salmon? Surely if you are feasting on prime rib your dog deserves a small amount of that. Anyway the prime RIB is the best part.  How could a small amount of prime rib beef hurt him? Of course I am not really talking  about dogs and bones . I'm talking about the already obscenely wealthy demanding more money at the expense of healthcare for the poor. Either way the dog deserves more than the bone and humans who are getting fat on excess should share some of it with those who are dying from the lack of that which is essential to survival. In my opinion. Thank you for your reply Walt and Happy Wednesday!  :) This post was edited by RosieG at December 13, 2017 8:56 AM MST

I just point out that ... the Republicans say REDUCING taxes will result in more money coming in to the government - but they say they have to RAISE entry fees to national parks, to get more money coming in to the government.  Seems to be a disconnect there.

Also ... lowering taxes in Kansas didn't bring in more money.  It actually resulted in less money, people being laid off, school budgets being cut (which it seems nobody cared about, until football programs were affected), and businesses leaving the state.

    Literal answer alert.
    1. I don't feast.
    2. I rarely eat meat that is bone-in.
    3. I don't have a dog.

    Literally speaking -

Bones can choke dogs; human food (even meat) can cause major gastronomic distress in a dog (dog gas can peel paint).  Therefore, throwing your dog a bone is actually being cruel - even though your intentions were good.

    Metaphorically speaking -

When we hear the word 'feast' our mind usually conjures up a scene of a large table overflowing with a surplus of succulent food.  A smorgasbord of meats, endless savory dishes, elegant breads, free flowing wine and liquor, and a buffet of desserts destined to dazzle the palate.   A joyous celebration for all!

Ah, the rich life.  If only we could eat like that.

Have you ever been to or hosted a feast?  Oh, I bet you have.  You may not have called it a feast.  Perhaps you called it a large dinner, or a get-together, or a party, or a potluck. (Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner, wedding celebration…)

They say, “Kings feast, the wealthy dine, commoners eat, while the poor starve”.  Where are you think you are on this scale?

Before you answer, let me ask you this.  Now, be completely honest.  How much food do you throw out in the trash in a week?  A month?  A year?  You know, food that was spoiled, moldy, past its expiration date, left on the side of your plate after a meal, got lost in the refrigerator, or you simply never got around to eating it?  Per year, 40% of the food in the US goes uneaten.  50% of all the produce is thrown in the garbage.  3 million tons of food goes into landfills.  That amounts to $400 per person… per day!

    So tell me…

Are you a king?  Feasting in great banquet halls, clinking glasses with aristocrats, serving a meal large enough to feed 50 people to a group of 3, perhaps 10?

Are you wealthy?  Dining in fancy restaurants (La Pierre, The Masa, Outback Steakhouse).

Are you a commoner?  Eating casseroles, McDonalds drive thru, top Raman.

Are you poor?  Rummaging daily through trashcans and dumpsters, hoping to find a half-eaten apple, or a half-drunk cup of coffee.

No, my friend, when it comes to food - you’re rich!  You’re beyond wealthy …. You’re a king!  We live in a country where food is used as props in movies, destroyed just for effect.  Where grocery stores toss tons of food in the trash daily, as it’s not “perfect enough” to sell.  Where restraints fill dumpsters with their weekly leftovers. Yet at the same time, there’re millions of people living on the streets or in gutters; longing for a just taste of these “crumbs” that fall from our “banquet tables”.

Do we truly share our great bounty, with these “dogs”?  Or do we simply toss them a bone … after we’ve eaten the meat off, of course.

Now, I’m not condemning anyone or demanding that they ‘change their ways’.  I’m simply giving you … ‘food for thought’.
