  • It's ginger ale.  I'm from the East Coast where ginger ale is more popular.

  • Vernors is a ginger flavored soft drink and the oldest surviving ginger ale brand in the United States. Vernors is a sweet “golden” ginger ale that derives its color from caramel and has a robust flavor (similar to that of ginger beer). The Vernors style was common before Prohibition, when “dry” pale ginger ale (typified by Canada Dry Ginger Ale) became popular as a drink mixer.describes

The flavor is described as "mellow yet perky with the mellowness attributed to the aging in oak barrels, and the perkiness to the use of more ginger and sugar than "dry" ginger ales.

  • There's a few recipes on the Vernors Wikipedia site ... here's one that sounds YUMMY!

Boston Cooler, also known as a Vernor's float, is an ice cream soda variant typically composed of Vernors Ginger Ale and vanilla ice cream blended together similar to a milkshake.

It was done in 1932.  In 1979 the building was scheduled to be demolished, no one wanted to see it torn down, though, and the arts council bought the building and restored the mural.  :)

  • I think it is really special to see a piece of history that has survived American progress.
