I like the marinated ones better too.
And the fresh ones are more trouble then they are worth and they just shrivel my fingers.

    Oh, yeah.

It's easy too.  But it requires preparation.

First of all, marinated artichokes are lovely.  But they totally mask the flavor.

Like marinated mushrooms.  Really good, but you don't get the mushroom flavor the way it can taste.

So, artichokes raw are just inedible.  But artichokes steamed correctly?  Heaven.  They have a mild, sweet, nutty flavor.  Very rich and you eat them petal by petal.

If you are interested in the recipie?  I'll get it for you.

My grandma made it with a really great olive oil, like Phillipo Bario. We would get fresh lemons like those lovely ones you sent to my home.  I will use them and maybe use them to make this dish.

So, the dressing or dip is just salt, pepper, olive oil and good lemons.

You dip the steamed artichoke petal in this liquid?  Heaven.  Just pull the pulp with your teeth and on to the next petal.

Rosie, if you do it right?  It is a very healthy and delicious treat.

When you get to the smaller and yummier petals, you must take care to have a kitchen scissors handy to cut the sharp tip off.  You are nearing the choke, or the needle part that needs to be cleaned and taken off the surrounding heart.  The heart is very delicious, like the filet of the vegetable.

If you like this idea, I think you might like baked artichokes too.

    First things first.
I think this may be of some help too.

oh crap, the link won't copy for some reason.  Sigh.  I gave you the directions.  I know you'll get it.

I love artichokes and marinated is the least interesting, unless you use just lemon and salt and pepper and olive oil.  I don't like the vinegar idea unless it is balsamic.

    The end.

I love pickles Sharon. I love Kim Chee and pepperonici and sauerkraut and  pimiento-stuffed olives. Ever had pickled OKRA? Delicious! In fact I often save the brine and put in it raw cauliflower and after a few days VOILA pickled cauliflower!  So that's why I like marinated artichoke hearts. I worked with a gal years ago who would sometimes bring a steamed one to work for her lunch and she ate it with mayo or lemon uice or something. She seemed to be in heaven while eating it. I think I'll give it a try. I can Google recipes on the internet. Thanks for trying to send a link. I'm glad you can use the lemons. I think they are Meyer lemons. My mom used to have a lemon tree in her backyard but this one even outdoes the one she had and the one she had was very prolific. Thank you for your reply! :) This post was edited by RosieG at December 29, 2017 1:43 AM MST
