The DOWNSIDE to being a member/devotee of Facebook/Twitter/et al is that you were the targets of the Russian meddlers. Didja know?

You had no way of knowing that. You had no way of knowing to whom you were speaking or what the motive was to cultivate you and manipulate you and shape you and reconfigure you. You were helpless pawns being targeted by folks with specific motives. You were all there together collected in one spot. The rest of us were out of their reach. But you were all ducks held captive in a shooting gallery and shoot you they did. Full of lies and misinformation and madeup scandals and phony evidence of fantasies to shape your thinking and fill your heads with exactly what they wanted you to believe was true. They are still at it too. Are you still on FB or Twitter? You like being a target?

Anyone on any social media site is exposed to a wide range of political views. Often people try to influence others and change their opinions. Politicians do it, the media does it, friends and family do it, you do it right here on a daily basis, and yes, others do it on this and other websites. No one is "held captive". Everyone has the option to ignore or leave the site...or to actually think for themselves. (What a novel idea, eh?)

Anyone who allows others, particularly unknowns on the internet, to "cultivate, manipulate, shape, and reconfigure" them is weak-minded to begin with and will have their mind made up for them by others anyway. In all the years I have been on internet sites, rarely have I ever seen anyone's mind changed on anything of import, and never regarding which party gets their vote. FB and (especially) Twitter are both largely political echo chambers, so the chances of manipulation are almost nil to begin with.
