A Republican prez was central to abolishing slavery. Southerners were Democrats until the civil rights legislation days of LBJ. Right?

They fled to the Republican party which greeted them with open arms and to this day that's where they go. Abraham Lincoln was despised by the racists of the day was murdered because ot it. A racist Dem is an oxymoron. The Democratic Party used to be a haven for racists but people can change and the Democratic party did. So are the Republicans proud that they are known as a haven for racist/bigots/WHITE everythings? How many ACLU folks are Republicans? I know there are people of color in that party. What I don't know is WHY since the party prides itself on being a place where blatant racists/bigots can go and feel welcomed.

Robert Byrd.....KKK member of the Dem party until the  end and referred to as a mentor by Hillary.

LBJ fought against the civil rights movement while in Congress. But had to sign it as Pres, but we all know what we said about signing it.

We also know who voted to passed the civil rights laws.

And we know that MLK was still fighting for civil rights after the laws signed by LBJ and MLK encouraged people to vote Republican because they were the party of equality.....I believe MLK was certainly a very informed voter on the topic.

The southern states' legislators did not become controlled by Republicans until the 1990s and 2000s. Where was this switch in the 1960s and 1970s?
