Is being at peace with something the same as having closure? What makes them different or the same?

Good question.  I've been wondering something similar myself.  Closure sounds like resolution to something emotionally painful.  I think there must be more to peace of mind than the absence of pain.  I am happiest when I am in nature, listening to the wind in the trees, the surf on the beach, or watching a fire.  My mind slows down and becomes more peaceful momentarily.  Then I get bored or tired.  I wish I could prolong that feeling of peace.  Any suggestions?  Meditation?

I'm with you on your answer, but I have no suggestions. When my mind gets too loud, I bury myself in a project. That's not always better, but it keeps my mind busy.

  • Umm...to me being at peace is more like acceptance.
Just the understanding that things happen and moving on without overreacting to a situation.
It may still hurt, but you have to deal with it in a peaceful way.
I think closure is something that you get later on after you've truly moved on.

It takes a lot to get closure in my opinion.
Like one night a while back I was praying and I caught myself saying "I hope my ex wife can find happiness."
In that moment I knew for the first time that I was over her.
I didn't feel hate or sadness anymore.
I felt at peace and I felt closure.
Mostly because I was in love with someone else.

    I see what you mean.

The second part of your answer is beautiful and sad at the same time. *hugs*

To me those are just figures of speech that could be variously interpreted.  But I think if we want the door to be close we have to do it ourselves and can't expect others to do it for us.  If we can't let go of something it seems perhaps we don't want to let go of it because we have not developed for ourselves anything to take its place.  And for me being at peace is just feeling good and being generally happy.

I agree with the first sentence- that's what I'm looking for- interpretations of the phrases. Are they the same or different to you?
