I KNOW lying to the press isn't a crime. But it doesn't speak well for the liar. How much trouble are those who lie for the liar in?

So the CHIEF LIAR is a primary bullsh ** artist. The secondary liars lie to coverup the bullsh** liar's lies. Are they in half as much trouble  or just as much? Any lawyers out there? Also and more importantly they never know who is watching and listening. They don't know who is out there taking notes on who said what which might come handy at a later time for a later purpose. Should secondary liars pause to reflect before they lie?
