Not sure exactly how you would define "sane" and "insane" but I think yes it is possible. After all there are many pressures from outside that can get to us if we do not develop survival strategies to handle them. Of course things in us can magnify them to an unhealthy degree which contributes to it. Most of us I think quite naturally devise ways of lessening or abating such pressures to preserve our love of life and sanity.
