Spacex launches world's biggest rocket. Is it true that Elon Musk is sending his Tesla into space? Would you?

Elon Musk said there is a 50% chance the rocket could blow up on the launch pad. If successful it will head for space and never come back. The booster rockets separated successfully and came back down to earth intact right on the target. Pretty impressive!. The core separated. It has 5 million pounds of thrust. I have no idea what that means but the folks talking about it said that's a LOT. Saw the whole thing on cable TV and I'll tell ya it was very exciting! Are you a space buff or isn't space exploration your cuppa tea?

I believe that's true.  He was interviewed last night and said that all the other space shots contained very unimaginative items and he wanted to send up something exciting.

I watched it, too.  It was very exciting to see it lift off and I can only imagine the joy for everyone involved in getting it into orbit must feel.  I have been to Cape Canaveral.  I didn't think I would be interested unless there was a launch, but the museum is very interesting.  We were a few days early for the launch, but we did get to see the vehicle on which the rocket gets to the launch pad.  Moves very, very slowly.  Happy Wednesday. :)

I was watching the news last night and they showed a photo of Elon Musk's mother.  I was astonished to note that she is a relatively famous model and she is stunning.  She's on a current Cover Girl commercial.  Look up Maye Musk and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • The thrust was equivalent to eighteen 747 aircraft which by itself is staggering.

I watched it and it was so exciting! An amazing achievement. I wonder what's next for Spacex?. Did you happen to watch it too ub? Musk was quoted as saying he was 50% sure it would blow up on the launchpad. Maybe he was joking? Then he said he'd be happy if it didn't do that and just get airborne and then explode. That would have been enough success for him or so he said. I dunno how much it all cost but the ecstatic and joyful folks watching it who saw how successful it was came right through that TV screen! Thank you for your reply! :)

  • I was channel surfing and landed on the launch about five minutes before the lift off. In all honesty, I didn't know about the launch before finding it prior to it all happening.  I found the fuel source to be interesting: kerosene and oxygen. All that intricate engineering and technology and they set it off with kerosene. Perhaps they were looking at the possibility of failure as kerosene, while flammable, is not explosive. To use other elements may have been dangerous in an accident, I don't know.

Apparently the success was way beyond anyone's expectations ub! It broke new ground and was almost flawless in its execution. Two of three parts that came off came back to earth intact and can be used again. Did you see them come back down? It was so beautiful. Straight down and landed perfectly. I don't know what level of brilliance was needed to accomplish that but it is spectacular! I wonder what else Elon Musk has up his sleeve? Now that's the kind of endeavor ALL billionaires should be interested in doing. Finding new frontiers to conquer. Breaking new ground. Not just sitting on their fat a**es consuming more and more and wanting more and more. Thank you for your reply. I read about about it on the internet so I was purposely watching and it was way more than I expected. A great return on the investment of my time. Memorable!  :) This post was edited by RosieG at February 8, 2018 4:37 AM MST
