Do pawns know they are the lowliest of the low or believe they are Kings and Queens and importantly powerful? Why?

    It's all about potential.

    If my pawn gets to the last row of my opponent, it can be anything it chooses---with my permission, of course.

    Do you play chess a lot tom? Does your wife play? I have a friend whose dad could play multiple games simultaneously according to my son. I think once he played 4 or more games at the same time which of course boggles my mind. It was one of his best friend's dad and I don't know if he was a Grand Master but he was very very very good at it. I've played of course and am less than mediocre at it which means I'm quite lousy. To be good you have to be moves ahead  and have a plan and know various famous "gambits". Are you very good at it if you do play? You sound as if you may be.
