By the very nature of the name "Liberal" I would have to say that racist is not a term embraced by them.
I'm not sure. Racism is sneaky.
Is American conservatism inherently bigoted? Many conservatives would be enraged by the question. Many liberals suspect the answer is yes.
These different reactions stem, in part, from different definitions of bigotry. Conservatives tend to define it in terms of intention: You’re guilty of bigotry if you’re trying to harm people because of their race, gender, or the like. Liberals are more likely to define it in terms of impact: You’re guilty if your actions disadvantage an already disadvantaged group, irrespective of your motives. You may genuinely believe that Georgia can’t afford to expand Medicaid. But given that the Georgians affected by this decision are disproportionately poor people of color—and that they lack coverage in large measure because they are poor people of color—your opposition to expanding Medicaid perpetuates a history of state-sponsored bigotry. As a conservative, you may feel an impulse to conserve the past. In a country whose history is marked by the subordination of blacks, women, and LGBT people, however, many liberals believe that conserving the past maintains that subordination.
That is probably true but the Cons are just more vocal about it. I am happy to say that I don't know any Libs who are racists but I can't say the same about the Cons I know.
Nice Sharon. Very clearly, logically and matter-of-factly defined. I do believe racists INTENTIONALLY WANT to harm people because of race, religion, gender, lifestyle, whatever. INTENTIONALLY. Jews were INTENTIONALLY murdered by Nazis because of their religion. Armenians were INTENTIONALLY murdered because of their religion too, I guess. Blacks were INTENTIONALLY lynched. RACISM is BASED on INTENTIONAL HATRED for 'the other" no matter what subclass you call it. American NAZIS, White Nationalists, White Supremacists, ALT-RIGHT Whites, KKK, Skinheads, Militia groups. The label differs but the product is identical because they all use the exact same despicable ingredients.. I see no wiggle room anywhere there. Happy American President's Day Monday! :)

Of course m2c. I had no doubt IF you responded it would be exactly with those words. Of course. SIGH. Thank you for your predictable reply. :( I sincerely hope that one day you will surprise me but it is unlikely so I won't be holding my breath.
Of course you knew that would be my answer. I have answered this question more than once. So you have seen my answer before....granted I have went into more details before.

I can only speak from my own circle of family and friends; most are probably liberal or moderate. I can't say I hear them hating on any of the groups that tend to suffer from bigotry and racism. Sadly, I have a few acquaintances that happen to be conservative and have been shocked to hear their very vocal views of people that aren't like them. This is not to say that maybe some liberals are more quiet and still hold some pretty racist type views. I think even if they do, liberals are more willing to agree that they would like equal rights for all.
I have never met a vocal, hating racist that was a Democrat. Ever.
I didn't even know it was a Lib/Con thing until I got on the internet. People are much more vocal about their feelings on line then they are in real life.
Sodahead was the first place I ever really saw political HATE! It was a shock to me after coming from SHINE. Some of those people were really nuts. I learned very quickly to not express my political beliefs without my friends around. LOL.
I still read shocking things on FB, so I know the hate hasn't gone away. If anything, more people are shamelessly expressing their hate for others that they know nothing about. I never knew some cons really hate liberals. It's no longer just a difference of beliefs and ideas.
Yes, I learned real quick not to share my feelings on SH, as many of us did. I still am a bit gun shy and don't say near as much as I would like to in some cases. But I am OK with that.
Me too because I don't want to put all liberals or conservatives into one group myself. I do know some really nice conservatives that are really decent people from what I can see. Liberals could easily kid themselves into thinking they never sound bad when they get all wound up.
I don't have a problem with whatever side a person chooses to take either. I do have a problem with people who make blanket statements about anyone they don't agree with. We both have called friends out when they do that and they always insist it's not about us. But make no distinction when making a statement about how much they hate the ones they are talking about.
Very true! I don't like blanket statements from any side. You are right that we have been willing to call even friends out if they are doing it. I have little tolerance for bullying and cheap shots coming from any corner.

All I can do is "me too" too PeaPod. I have been getting emails from a cousin with whom I had lost touch but through my sister we started chatting. Out of the blue one day he forwards to me an article about the damage hiring immigrants does to our country. Now mind you his parents were immigrants as were mine. I only read a few words of it and then I sent him a blistering email outlining all of the doofus don evildoing and added that politics was NOT a good subject for us to discuss. I thought I'd never hear from again. Now all he forwards are benign apolitical things. I guess I scared the sh** out of him! I had an uncle who was a cop in Detroit who was incredibly racist. He fit the typical profile of a racist cop. He died long ago. Also we have a family member who is a Republican but I have never heard him say anything racist. His lovely fiancee Rosa is a beautiful Mexican American woman who is very artistic and talented. Rather when we talked politics it was always about fiscal policy and the like. But we avoid talking politics just to be on the safe side. All our other family members/friends/acquaintances are Democrats. Some like us are very Liberal, some are moderate. Maybe it's just the circle of folks we are drawn to who are drawn to us? We had a plumber for years whom I thought was a nice guy. The last time he came over for some reason politics got brought up. He was a devoted evil doofus don fan beyond belief. I told him we should stop talking about it and he wouldn't shut up. He kept talking and talking and talking and FINALLY after I SCREAMED at him to SHUT UP he did. I can count on the fingers of ONE HAND the times I ever used those words and as you know I'm 80! So you can see how furious he made me. And then he began apologizing so I just went into a bedroom, shut the door and waited for him to leave. Jim knew I was very upset. Now why would he keep hammering and hammering and hammering at me after I said we should talk about something else? I'll you why. "THEY" are so obsessed with and adore the evil doofus don they wax poetic 24/7 about all the wondrous things he's done and will do and how gloriously perfect a president he is. Makes ya wanna barf! Emphatically No. They are incapable of such actions. All they are capable of doing is screaming at the rest of us until they're hoarse, that the rest of the world is guilty of these things. It's logical when you think about it, as they are always right. I've never met a Liberal that I wouldn't nominate for sainthood.(They suffer so much trying to drag the normal folks into the light) I just believe that they should refrain from participation in psychology, psychiatry, legal jurisprudence, sociology and governmental affairs.
Seriously ub? How odd. So all Liberals fit the template you have set up as stated above? You really do believe it or are stating it because you are playing to whatever audience you think is out there whom you want to impress? I don't think all Conservatives or all Republicans are anything specific. There is an infinite variety among them. I do think all donjohn supporters are the same. Devotion to donjohn that will never waiver no matter what he says, does, doesn't say, doesn't do. They have no requirements for him. They are devoted no matter what and will NEVER abandon him.They have to all be alike to stick with the guy. But YOU really believe all Liberals are alike. You think I screamed at you? When? Where? Show me. But some of the teens from Parkland who had the mike SCREAMED at donjohn to DO SOMETHING! Some said they had no political affiliation. Do you believe them? They suffered the loss of loved ones. They lived through a terrifying experience during which they believed they would die. Perhaps you have experienced what they did. If so do you fault them for their speaking out or admire them? I dunno. Some donjohn conspiracy lover supporters say the teens are actors and were put up to all of it by Liberals. Do you subscribe to that belief or do you think they're crazynuts and disrespectful? It isn't up to me to try to either prove or disprove your concept of what and who I am being as I how I am ONE OF THEM..the dreaded ones. The scary ones. I admit I am a Liberal Democrat. That isn't all I am but apparently that's all you wish to give me credit for. Disappointing. Well it isn't the first time I've been disappointed nor will it be the last. I've survived worse. I am sure you are equally disappointed in me. After all I am a LIBERAL DEM and well, what do you expect? SIGH. Thank you for your reply.
