A woman described as hysterical is generally in the throes of an emotional crisis/breakdown/meltdown. A man who is described as hysterical means he is funny as he** and you will laugh your a** off! Now I know there are exceptions. Lucille Ball was always hysterically funny and Don Knotts while hysterically funny could also get emotionally hysterical too. But those are the exceptions. So why the gender bias in a word that can go two ways?. One is a compliment and the other ain't!
