If you were a teacher and REQUIRED to carry a gun and shoot someone would you leave that job and do something else?

Killing doesn't go against your religion. Killing goes against your integrity/moral character/humanity. Should you get fired if you refuse to be armed and ready to kill? Can you use the same excuse religious folks do who don't want to serve same-gender people or provide birth control material? "My religion made me do it"?  :(

No teacher will be required to have a gun. They are talking about volunteers who will be screened and trained.

Even if they are trained to use a gun, shooting a target is much more different then shooting another human being.
If a teacher is not equipped to do that, then they have no business having a gun in the class room.

Well the donjohn DID SAY that some teachers are adept at using guns and some aren't. So I guess the adept ones would be carrying the loaded weapons on them somewhere! Thank you for your reply Lulu'sMom! :)

Adept at using a gun is not the same thing as killing someone.
I know how to use a gun but I have never killed anyone with it. Unless you are prepared to do that you better leave the gun at home.
    Happy Friday Rosie.

This is a really, really tough situation. I don't like guns. I won't touch one. Being in the presence of one makes me very uneasy. I actually quit one of my dental assisting jobs, at least in part, because the doctor dealt arms out of the office and we were expected to seat his clients in conference rooms and bring them the weapons they were considering buying. The one time I did it, I wasn't even aware that the package I gave him contained a gun. Had I been aware, I would have refused. I also made it clear that, from that point on, I wanted nothing to do with the doctor's side business. If I was a teacher, I absolutely would not want anything to do with a weapon. I would quit my job.

On the flip side, the man I'm dating is a hunter and owns several guns. I will not touch any of his guns, though I respect his right to have them. I trust his judgement and believe he's a responsible gun owner. He is also a teacher, and if a school asked him to carry, I know in a heartbeat he would, and the kids would be safer because of it. But, that's only because I know this man and already trust him. I can't say the same about other teachers.
