Shortly before donnyjohnny announced his steel tariff former adviser Carl Icahn sold $31million worth of steel-related stock. COINKYDINK?
Stinky stink coinydink? Serendipitous or illegal INSIDER INFO? Who knows? Martha Stewart went to jail for it. Think Icahn will or if he did would little teeny tiny donnyjohnny pardon him?
This steel tariff announcement was carried on the BBC's news programmes, as it has implications for British steel producers exporting to the USA.
An interviewed analyst also explained that trade tariffs are two-edged swords because if the country imposing the tariff still needs the imports, the selling prices of the goods or products in that country would increase to cover the importers' increased costs.
China's government called the US steel tariff "stupid", but not many people have much sympathy with China thanks to its practice of "dumping" steel in Western countries.
Well the clearly brainless donjohn said "Trade wars are good". So he imposes 25% tariff on steel imports and a 10% tariff on aluminum. Guess who pays for it? We the people. Of course the countries on whom the tariffs are imposed will pass along the increased cost to the consumer of those goods. I dunno how anyone can think this is a good thing. But it may not happen. He may backtrack because of all the flak. He says lots of things that never happen. So we shall see. AARRGGHH! Thank you for your reply Durdle! :)
I've noticed a lot of posts about the USA's internal politics call you President anything but his real name. Is this simply satire, or is there something darker involved, such as Internet surveillance an American correspondent on another site alleged happens?
Such high tariffs could even have the opposite effect to what's intended, unless America has large reserves of suitable iron-ore and bauxite, and the plant to process them. Iron smelting also needs large quantities of coal (for coke) and limestone; refining bauxite into aluminium takes enormous amounts of electricity; and this before turning the newly-refined metals into the alloys and stock forms (bars, sheets, etc) for manufacturers to use.
If your home resources of all these are insufficient to replace much of the finished-metal imports, passing on the tariffs could depress sales enough to harm the very industries this import-tax is supposed to encourage.
You're welcome Durdle. In answer to your question and I'm only answering it for myself I show my contempt for him by refusing to be polite or civil or respectful. I do not respect him and I'm not a phony so I can't pretend I do. So that's my reason for calling him whatever name comes to mind at the time. He is the antithesis of President Obama who was certainly not a perfect person nor did I agree with everything he did. But as they say everything is relative and in this case relative to doofus don President Obama was a perfect human being. As for doofus he may not do it. He could change his mind. He is getting a lot of blowback flak and it might possibly force him to backtrack. He does that a LOT. Really nothing he says ever makes sense to me. Gibberish with occasional insults you CAN understand directed at specific people with whom he is furiously enraged for whatever reason. He still has not directed our intelligence agencies to work on STOPPING Russian meddling. I think he likes it. He is definitely afraid of Putin. I'm very certain Putin has a lot of dirt on him with photos too I expect. Do I HAVE PROOF of that? No but it's just common sense. He is a traitor to his own country and even he wouldn't sell his country out for a hangnail. It must be something very big and very bad. So the tariffs aren't a good idea for we the people then? I mean if the folks sending us their goods have to pay more to get them to us it stands to reason it will cost us more to buy them. How is that a good thing? Thank you for your reply Durdle and Happy Sunday! :)
