Is One-Man ruler the way ta go? Your cuppa tea? Ruler for life? If so which one man and why?

It all depends on the man ruling.  History shows us that there have been a few good dictators, but many aren’t.  “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.   Humans have an insatiable thirst for power.  We enjoy having authority over something or someone else.  Be it an animal, a spouse, a neighbor, an employee, another kid on the playground…   We’ve all seen many examples in our lives and we’ve probably even had the desire ourselves.

When humans first established governments, it was usually the strongest or the wisest who first ruled.  Then their kin would succeed them (creating dynasties).  The more powerful rulers conquered the weaker ones, thus establishing nations.  Of course, the bigger the nation, the more power it wielded.  And the more power it had the more tempting it was for the ruler to abuse that power.  Some ancient rulers were so deluded by power that they demanded to be worshiped as gods.  If a god says bow before him and a person refuses, or if they publically disagree with him, there’s no “freedom of speech” or “I have my rights”.  No, that person is usually jailed or executed… right there on the spot.  Yikes!

Thank you for your reply Shuhak. In my working days I turned down jobs that would have required me to be a "Supervisor". I work best alone on my own and don't like the often petty problems that people bring to the battlefield. I am not ruler material and I know it. I just want to be responsible for me. I guess I don't have that "insatiable" thirst for power. I don't compete with others knowingly or purposefully. Sometimes it can't be avoided but it's not my cuppa tea. Competition brings out the mean and ugly in people. I don't want any part of it! Now when my son was younger he was my responsibility and I didn't shirk that duty. It was my job to guide him and teach  him and show him what I thought was a "better" way of doing things.  Other than that no way Jose. I think FDR would have been prez for life. He almost  was and that was why The Constitution was amended to limit the length of time a prez could serve. The donjohn has already done grievous harm to us. He wants to be prez for life and his adorers would like nothing better  but hopefully he won't even make it through the 2nd year. He'll be booted out before 2019. Fingers crossed. Happy Monday! :) .
