Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg both support UBI . In the 1790's Thomas Paine talked about it. IN 1967 Martin Luther King Jr. talked about it. Finland is starting a program that will pay $600/month to 2000 citizens for a limited tmie. Ontario, Canada will pay $12,600 a year to certain residents for a limited period of time. They are testing the idea out to see what benefits may accrue from it.
Machines are taking away jobs. Robots too. UBI helps people to bridge the gap between available jobs and the need for them. Also it is needed to counteract the effects of growing income inequity in the United States.
Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs plans to implement the program this year. The money for it will come from the SEED program by the Economic Security Program who will provide $1 Million for it. The plan is to pay $500/month to certain people for 3 years.
