Anciently that was their entertainment. Later on hangings were what entertained some folks. They'd gather and watch. I don't know if they cheered. Today it's definitely guns. That's the way to go. Gunfolks fighting gunfolks with bullets or whatevers. That's what turns folks on. That's what they cheer! Progress, right?
