When cell phones were introduced there were concerns transmissions near vital organs such as the brain might trigger cellular growth leading to cancer. The industry has long since silenced those concerns but it does not mean they were never valid.
It is impossible to find a cell phone that is not smart and equipped with so many extra 'features' that any attempt at menus become a confusing waste of time.
I have seen so many games that require continuous connection while playing that I consider it a cartainty that phone companies pay a 'kickback' percentage of the users connection cost to game makers who ensure that cell players stay connected. Unlike internet connections via land-lines, playing via the cell net is not at all cheap.
I have no need for taking selfies, making videos, getting stock-prices, or finding shops, and consider alerts a nuicance, rather than a service.
Intelligence and like Savvy said, freedom. There is no reason to be accessible 24/7. Answer machines are wonderful devices that actually make life better. That is the test for technology for rational people. Smart phones have and are turning people into babbling idiots. I never joined the crazy device addiction club. People seem to be afraid they will not immediately know when they receive a like on some irrelevant post. It's really just crazy.
Thank you, never had any interest in using them though did for a year a while back for a specific purpose. I have a life to live which does not include my being available 24/7 and If you want to get in touch with me you will have to do it some other way.
I have a phone. But have always told people I have a phone for me...my convience not for yours. They look all dumbfounded when you explain that you don't live to answer it.
I have an old flip phone that makes calls and receives calls - assuming I'm in the mood to turn it on. It's a convenience for me and a safety measure when I'm driving. Other than that, I don't need a phone. I have a camera and a laptop.
