Do you always wait to be invited or do you sometimes barge? Why?

I never barge.  To me that would be impolite.  What if they didn't invite me for a reason?  What if they really don't like me, or are sick of me?  Looking at it from a different angle - would I like it if someone barged on me?  It may seem "antiquated" nowadays, but I firmly believe in the Golden Rule - "Do to others whatever you'd like them to do to you".

In the long ago "olden days" when I was a kid folks would "drop by" for a visit without any notification. Not all the time of course but often enough to make an impression on me. My folks always welcomed them and make them feel comfy. The question I asked here however mostly pertains to "barging in on conversations" on an internet social site.  Ever drop by one and leave a comment based on what you read others say? John and Joan had a talk. You commented on their conversation without being invited to. Ever do that? Thank you for your reply Shuhak!   :)

I remember that.  I remember mom feeding them lunch (sometimes dinner) or giving them a cup of tea (I was always shooed outside to play).  We were always welcomed when we did it as well.  A a kid, I just thought it was the normal way people did things.

My answer holds true for conversions as well.  MYOB!  Answering questions is fine, but barging in on a conversation, or worse yet an argument, is just rude.
