To get your BMI* divide your weight in lbs by your height in inches squared and multiply by 703. Why? What is the 703?

*Body Mass Index

Me
120 lbs divided by 66 inches squared times 703. Swell. Fine and dandy. I'm not underweight or overweight or obese. Goody. WHAT the heck does the 703 represent? Who came up with that and why?

I get  your point Ele though this guy is way too muscular to appeal to me. Honestly those dames with bulging muscles I think are very unattractive as well and I think this guy is very unappealing too. Overdone. Overblown. Overworked. But what do I know? He looks grotesque to me. I'll take Sean Connery any day of the week thank you very much! Do you or have you ever worked out so much you looked like this guy? It's the approximate conversion factor to change units from metric (meters and kilograms) to imperial (inches and pounds).

BMI is defined as weight (kg) / [height (m)^2]
    1 inch = .0254 meters
    1 lb = 0.45359237 kg
    so 0.45359237 / .0254 ^2 = 703.0696 or just 703.
    and so
    Imperial BMI = 703 x weight (lbs) / [height (in)^2]

Thank you for your reply tom. So the original BMI creation occurred where they use the metric system. Why don't we? Happy Friday to thee!  :)
