    It started in Europe as a gesture showing a palm of a hand toward another indicating there was not a weapon in hand.

    I like that Ele. A gesture of cordiality/trust even. Among strangers or acquaintances or friends.. So while the military are the ones who would have weapons it can also apply to civilians although I've never saluted anyone in my life. Yet. Thank you for the information and Happy Saturday! :)
