Did you ever say anything so cruelly mean it horrified even you? What did you do? Express regret,defend/excuse,ignore? What for?

Expressing regret to someone you hurt at least acknowledges the wrong. Refusing to do that multiplies the wrong and keeps it alive. Why would anyone willingly do that? Beside being rudely obtuse of course what is the excuse?
