Some folks seem to do exactly the very worst thing and then wonder why "it" doesn't work? Do you always read the directions first or just plow in and figure it out as you go along? How often do you get it wrong?
Directions? I don't need no stinkin' directions! I alway plow in and figure things out as I go along. That's how I learn. Does my "finished product" look like the one in the picture? Sometimes. You see, I'm a trial and error type of person (drives the perfectionist part of me crazy). I used to build furniture at one of my jobs. The "instructions" were always in a foreign language (if there even were any instructions) and the picture was undoubtedly blurred. What do you do? You build it! I also had to build elaborate cardboard displays (those big ones you occasionally see at grocery stores). Those instructions were a nightmare! "Square up base A". "Slide tab S into slot D (forming an "X") while tucking the 4 interlocking B tabs into the corresponding flaps on side-panel C." Let's just say I had a lot more hair when I started building it than when I finished.
You are intrepid m'dear. Whatever Jim buys he reads the directions/instructions first and if he has any questions he calls the number provided to resolve the issue. He said his dad told him "measure twice cut once" which isn't directly related to this but tangentially so. Now granted some directions are wackadoodly. I have a friend whose job it was to edit instructions in a repair manual that had originally been "written in Japanese and translated into English" by someone in Japan. You can imagine how confusing they were since English was not the first language by the Japanese manual translators who did the best they could. It kinda drove him nuts. So I can see the problem. On the other hand if you are going on a trip to a place you have never been do you just starting driving in the general direction or do you use a GPS, map, Thomas Guide? This same friend has an incredible sense of direction and rarely ever gets lost. Me? Geez I can get lost in the neighborhood if I"m distracted and thinking about other things. Anyway I admire your bravery. Thank you for your thoughtful reply Shuhak! :)
When I go somewhere I just go (I don't even own a GPS). I've always had a fairly good sense of direction, but I've honed it further through my continual study of meteorology.
